Music Together® - The Leading Preschool Music Program
The Music Together® Preschool program helps all
children learn music in developmentally appropriate ways. Music
Together's preschool music program uniquely integrates music
experiences at home with those in school to create a music-making
community which supports a child’s language, cognitive, emotional,
social, and physical development.
Children experience fifty to seventy-five songs a
year and become familiar with important aspects of music-making –
moving in rhythm, singing in various tonalities, improvising,
listening, using language in musical ways, dancing, and “reading” song
book pages.
Weekly Preschool Music Classes
Each week a trained Music Together® specialist leads the children
and their classroom teachers in a variety of song, movement, and
instrument activities. With the help of the Music Together materials—a
special teacher-edition songbook and CD—the classroom teacher then
builds on the music-class experience during the week. Music becomes
part of daily classroom life, extending to other curriculum areas like
language, art, and math.
Bringing the Music Home® Encourages Family Music-making
Music extends to family life, too, as children “bring the music
home” to their parents through the Music Together family CD and
illustrated songbook. The Music Together® specialist and the classroom
teachers work together to create convenient opportunities for parents
to experience the music activities at school, including classroom
visits and special parent events.
Music in Preschool
- Music Together® specialists teach music and movement classes in
cooperation with classroom teachers. Weekly classes are 30 to 45
minutes long.
- The Music Together specialist helps the classroom teacher
gain knowledge of early childhood music development as well as the
skills for making music a part of daily class routines.
- Classroom teachers follow through on the weekly sessions, adapting activities to their curriculum needs and interests.
- Recordings, songbooks, and teaching materials are provided for classroom use.
Music at Home
- Children “bring the music home” for parent/child musical play, sharing the songs and activities learned in school.
- Parents become involved through the Music Together recordings
and songbooks given to each family and through special family events at
school.
- Parents really appreciate knowing what their children are learning – and joining in on the fun!
Music Building Community
- Children learn from the model of music participation set by both parents and classroom teachers.
- Children, parents, teachers, and staff make music together at school-wide events.
- The music experiences provide adults with a new arena for
observation, evaluation, and appreciation of the child’s cognitive,
language, emotional, social, and physical development.
- The joy of music at home and in school creates a natural
circle of learning that builds parent/child, parent/teacher and
parent/school relationships.
